Day 11 — Potty in Sandnes Continued

As the only customers on a quiet mid-week day in Pottemaker Simonsen in Langgata (I’m sorry, but I think I spelled Langgata wrong in the previous piece, it should be spelled with two g’s, and yes, it does mean the long street, as in the High Street) in Sandnes. We were offered a little tour of the pottery along with a demonstration of how they throw a ‘Sandnesgauk’ pottery whistle on the wheel. The Sandnesgauk (cooko) is the town symbol, and there is even a ‘Sandnesgauk orchestra’ in town, who had recently performed a version of The Magic Flute replacing the traditional flute piece with the cooko sound. Mr.Jones talked with our lovely potter about the colour and price of clay.
