CLOSE(D) BORDER CONNECTION – Under the Same Skies

Close(d) Border Connection is a performance which takes the form of a joiking-walk in a landscape setting outdoors. The performers and the audience take a walk together, were they share time and space, as well as the joik [jåik]. This performance raises questions about the indigenous way of life (nomadic), borders and different ways of creative expression. At the same time, it also engages with the typical Norwegian tradition of walking in the outdoors [tu:r].

Gwrando – a listening journey
“Govledh – the art of listening”
In 2023 I was awarded a Gwrando grant by Wales Arts International. I have been tasked with listening. I don´t know where this listening journey will take me. So far it has resulted in meeting many different people, having important conversations, undertaking a series of walks, making drawings, listening to stories and writing my own, as well as creating a short collaborative film. My journey has only just begun and I feel there is so much more to be unearthed, almost like being on an archeological dig: unearthing, decoding, revealing, trying to decifer and to understand something. On my journey I listen to many different voices, but I also listen to the land. In some places I find I have an urge to lie down, close to the ground, and listen to what might be hidden deep within the earth. Am I searching for forgotten voices? Am I listening to the ancestral voices? In Sami culture, there is a belief that we walk in parallel with the ancestors who are reflecting our walking beneath us. We are walking together but upside down, like a mirror image, reflecting each others worlds.
